Lancaster University Ghana is looking for a dynamic, hardworking individual to fill the following positions

Job Description


Duties and Responsibilities:

Forecast the cost of the different materials needed for the project;
Prepare cost analysis based on the architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required and labour involved;
Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, which involves liaising with architects, engineers and subcontractors;
Manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering aspects of the project;
Prepare tender and contract documents, bills of quantities and other documentation;
Evaluate tenders from contractors and subcontractors and, where appropriate, negotiate with  the contractors;
Seek to minimize the cost of the project, enhance value for money, and ensure that the required standards and quality are met;
Control all stages of the project within predetermined budget and work to keep the project within the timelines;
Monitor, value the work done on site and keep track of project progress;
Resolve disputes between vendors, designers and building and civil contractors;
Prepare a statement of final account, which records the actual costs for all stages of the project;
Work as part of a team to ensure that the requirements of the client are delivered;
Prepare periodic progress report on project;

Required Skills or Experience

BSc. Quantity Surveying from reputable tertiary institution;
Minimum of 5 years post qualification relevant working experience;
Must be certified by Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhIS) and must be a member in good standing;

Required Technical Competencies:

Should have executed at least two projects with the value of US$10 million or more as the QS in charge for a construction project;
Good working knowledge of standard methods of measurement;
Good working knowledge of forms of contract currently used within the Building and Civil Engineering industry;
Have good understanding of how to perform cost control analysis,
Have excellent understanding of grades of concrete with their mix ratios

Have excellent understanding of how to prepare valuations and variation claims
Understand how to price project preliminaries in relation to extension of time
Know the various methods of valuing preliminaries for an ongoing project
Know the various types of contracts – Fixed, Fluctuating, All inclusive; etc
Understand site materials inventory management and control.


Strong numerical and financial management skills;
Strong analytic skills;
Good negotiator;
Familiar with civic conditions of contract;
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ability to learn how to use specialist software;
Excellent planning and organizational skills;
Excellent communication and presentation skills;
Good project management skills and ability to pay attention towards the qualitative and quantitative aspects;
Required Personality Competencies:
Person with high integrity;
Assertive and decisive;
Pays attention to detail;
Ability to guard confidentiality of process and information;
Ability to work well with team members at all levels;
Ability to multi task and stay focused;
Ability to work with deadlines;
Good interpersonal skills;
Good presentation and report writing skills;
Flexibility with regard to working across all areas of the business, and hours to meet the requirements of this challenging position
